About EAN, UPC and GS1
GS1 is a global organization that sets standards for business communication and product identification. Both EAN (European Article Number) and UPC (Universal Product Code) are part of GS1's international standards. GS1 sets the guidelines for product identification, barcodes, and supply chain processes globally. While EAN is commonly used worldwide (with 13 digits), UPC is primarily used in North America (with 12 digits). These barcodes help businesses streamline inventory management, pricing, and sales tracking.
