Barcode Technology - Code93 Barcode               Hide the description

Code 93 is a barcode symbology designed in 1982 by Intermec to provide a higher density and data security

enhancement to Code 39. It is an alphanumeric, variable length symbology. Code 93 is used primarily by Canada Post to encode supplementary delivery information. Every symbol includes two check characters..

Code 93 Extended is based on Code 93 and can encode all 128 ASCII characters. The characters represented by

Code 93 are represented in Code 93 Extended as single barcode characters, but all other characters are represented by a control character plus another character. You must take this into account when estimating barcode length. .

Valid characters:  0123456789[Space]ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ-.$/+%
Code 93 Extended also has:
 !#&'()*,:;<=>?@[\]^_` abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz{|}~

Code 93 is restricted to 43 characters and 5 special characters. In Full ASCII Code 93, the 43 basic symbols

(0¨C9, A-Z, "-", ".", "$", "/", "+" and "%") are the same as their representations in Code 93. Lower case letters, additional punctuation characters and control characters are represented by sequences of two characters of Code 93.
This encoding is the same as Full ASCII Code 39, except that four special-purpose symbols are used, rather than reassigning $, /, + and %.

Code93 is one of the many barcode formats currently in use.

A Barcode is a method of representing data in a visual, machine-readable form.

The barcode formats has two categories:

One-dimensional (1D) --- Barcodes represented data by varying the widths and spacings of parallel lines.

Two-dimensional (2D) --- Using rectangles, dots, hexagons and other geometric patterns to represented data.

Code93 is 1D barcode.

Structure:
A start character *
Encoded message
First modulo-47 check character "C"
Second modulo-47 check character "K"
Stop Character *
Termination bar

Code93 is variable with no fixed length.

Check digit:

Code 93 uses 2 checksums, the so-called "C" checksum and the so-called "K" checksum. Both are calculated according to the same principle. However, the "K" checksum also contains the "C" checksum.
During the calculation, reference numbers are first assigned to all characters of the code. Each digit in the code is assigned a weighting and was incremental from behind. Accordingly, the last position has the weight 1, the penultimate position the weight 2, and so on. The reference numbers are multiplied in each case by the weighting. The resulting individual results are added together.
This total is now divided by 47. The remainder of this division corresponds to the checksum, which is coded as a character using the reference number.
The "K" checksum is determined in the same way. However, this time the character string of the code - as with the first checksum - plus the "C" checksum is used as the basis. The first determined checksum is included in the calculation of the second checksum.

The check digits are not displayed in the plain text line.

Human Readable:

Most barcodes display their corresponding values below them, which makes it possible to human read and manually  enter the barcode values into the equivalent system when the barcode label is worn out and cannot be read by the barcode scanner.

The Advantages of using barcodes:

If you want to reduce costs and save time, using barcodes is a good choice. Whether you are a company or a non-commercial organization, to improve efficiency and reduce overhead, barcodes are a valuable and viable option, which is economical and reliable.

Using barcode system will improve the inventory control is improved, it can track inventory accurately, inventory levels can be reduced it will lower the rate of eavesdropping. The location of the inventory and device can also be tracked, thereby reducing the time it takes to find the inventory and device.

The barcode system provide better data. Because a barcode can store various information such as inventory and pricing, especially when using QR Code, it can store thousands of characters, so the data stored in the barcode can be quickly obtained by the barcode reader, this fast turnaround ensures that time is not wasted on data entry or retrieval. In addition, the barcode can be customized to include other relevant information as needed. They provide fast and reliable data for various applications.

Barcodes are cheap and user-friendly, providing an indispensable tool for tracking data from pricing to inventory. The end result of a comprehensive bar code system is reduced overhead.
